Biography
Dr. Yuan Tian is a historian of late imperial and modern China with research focuses on law, Christianity, and colonialism. She holds a PhD from the University of Chicago, an MA from Stanford, and a BA from HKU. Her work has been supported by prestigious institutions including the American Council of Learned Societies, the Hoover Institution, the Association for Asian Studies, and the China Times Cultural Foundation. Her research appears in leading journals, including Late Imperial China, Modern China, and Modern Asian Studies. She is currently completing a monograph on Sino-foreign legal and business encounters in the Upper Yangzi River.
