Biography

Professor Stuart Gietel-Basten is Professor of Social Science and Public Policy at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, where he serves as Associate Dean (Research, Global Engagement and EDI) in the School of Humanities and Social Science and as Associate Director of the Centre for Aging Science. A demographer trained at Cambridge (PhD, 2008), his research covers fertility and family policy, population ageing, historical demography and demographic measurement. He was previously Associate Professor at the University of Oxford (2013 to 2017) and is affiliated with the Graduate School of Medicine at Osaka University.
