Biography
Professor Ching May Bo (DPhil Oxon) is a Professor of History at City University of Hong Kong. Her researches study the dynamics between the national identity and regional cultures in China. In recent years, she has examined how the regional culture of South China took shape in a trans-regional context in terms of sound, colour, and tastes from the 16th to the 20th centuries. Her recently published Chinese books Encountering Whang Tong: Little People and the Big World along the Pearl River Estuary in the 18th and 19th Centuries, won national awards and are widely acclaimed by professional and general readers.
