Biography

Professor Junwei Liu is an Associate Professor of Physics at HKUST and the Founding Director of IAS Center for Quantum Matter. His has broad research interests, spanning traditional phenomena such as ferroelectricity and more exotic topological phases, including quantum spin Hall insulators. His current research focuses on two main areas: the study of novel phases and properties of quantum matter such as altermagnets, and their material realization and experimental signatures; and the combination of advanced machine learning techniques and novel physics.
