Biography

Prof. Yao got his Bachelor degree from Peking University in 2001, and PhD degree in 2006 from UCSD. He joined University of Hong Kong in 2008, and rose through the academic ranks to Chair Professor in 2019. His theoretical research interests span condensed matter physics, quantum physics, and optical physics. He has received OCPA Achievement in Asia Award, Croucher Innovation Award, Croucher Senior Research Fellowship, Nishina Asia Award, Xplorer Prize, Huangkun Prize, and has been named by Clarivate "Highly Cited Researchers" in consecutive years from 2018. He is elected Fellow of American Physical Society and Fellow of Optica.
