Biography

Professor John Lai received his Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Oxford (2005), and is currently Professor in the Department of Cultural and Religious Studies, Chinese University of Hong Kong. He was the Associate Dean, Faculty of Arts, CUHK; Keeley Visiting Fellow, Wadham College, Oxford; Visiting Scholar, Harvard-Yenching Institute, Harvard University. His research interests focus on Chinese Christian literature; Translation of religious texts; and Global Yijing (Book of Changes) studies. He has published more than 10 books, including Literary Representations of Christianity in Late Qing and Republican China (2019); Global Yijing: Intercultural Encounters with World Religions and Thoughts (2025).
