Biography
Professor Hok Yin CHAN specializes in the intellectual history of the Republic of China, with particular emphasis on Zhang Taiyan, Neo-Confucianism, and the May Fourth Movement. In recent years, he has also delved into Hong Kong history. His academic publications include To Build a New China: Zhang Taiyan and the May Fourth Generation (2019), Cultural Hong Kong: A Century of Urban Flux (2024), and Sino-British Relations and Colonial Governance: Sir Cecil Clementi in Hong Kong, 1925–1930 (2024, co-authored). In 2015, his book May Fourth in Hong Kong: Colonialism, Nationalism, and Localism (2014) won the Hong Kong Book Prize.
