Biography
Dr Rev Madipola Wimalajothi Thero is a RGC JRFS Post-doctoral Fellow at The University of Hong Kong. He completed his PhD at The University of Hong Kong in 2024. His research focuses on Theravāda Buddhism — covering texts, Vinaya, rituals, and history — as well as textual criticism and the study of religion in both historical and contemporary contexts. He has been the recipient of several prestigious fellowships and scholarships, including the RGC Junior Research Fellowship (2025/26), the Dissertation Year Fellowship and the Tung Lin Kok Yuen Award for Excellence in Buddhist Studies (2023/24), the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship (2020/21), and the Hong Kong University Presidential Scholarship (2020/21).
