Biography

Dr. Chiu's academic trajectory, spanning The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) and the University of Warwick, investigates the structural nexus of sport, health, and society. While his MA explored social class and cultural capital, his PhD (2022) offered a critical analysis of sporting naturalization in Hong Kong, examining its role in shaping national and ethnic identities. Currently an RGC Postdoctoral Fellow at EdUHK, his research interrogates health inequalities, social inclusion, and sport for development. Utilizing a sociological lens, he analyze how athletic systems reflect broader power dynamics and stratification, seeking to understand sport’s potential for fostering equity within the complex Hong Kong landscape.
