Dr. Franklin Tat-Fan CHENG

Biography

Dr. Cheng’s research interests encompass atmospheric dynamics, moisture transport, the Asian monsoons, climate change detection and attribution, extreme compound weather events, intraseasonal oscillations, as well as subseasonal prediction and predictability. He leverages cutting-edge global climate models and machine learning/artificial intelligence techniques in his work. He published over 20 peer-reviewed research articles in high-impact journals, such as Nature Communications, Science Advances, and Communications Earth & Environments, and has authored a book chapter in Encyclopedia of Atmospheric Sciences (3rd Edition). Dr. Cheng was awarded the Postdoctoral Fellowship 2023/24 funded by the Research Grants Council (RGC) of Hong Kong.
